The Business of Speaking: 3 Strategies to Monetize Speaking on Stages - Ep #06

If you want to crush your business goals, you've got to embrace speaking opportunities. Does that mean you need to jump on stage in front of 1,000 people right away? Heck no.

When most entrepreneurs think of speaking, they think of either professional speakers charging a fee for their talk or speaking for free to get experience… to eventually command a fee. But this concept of trading money for time wasn’t why you built your business. And speaking for free without a strategy isn’t going to lead you towards the results you want. The good news is that these aren’t the only ways to speak to get results in your business.

In this episode, I’m sharing three specific speaking strategies you can use in your business to achieve your revenue goals. We’ll talk about the similarities and differences between speaking for a fee, speaking to sell your programs, and speaking to grow your audience.

We’ll also talk about...

Lead with Compassion in Times of Uncertainty and Fear

You don’t need another COVID-19 update, so how about we skip to something I hope will be more contagious:

Kindness.

Our world needs us, now more than ever, to lead with compassion.

Monday night on my local community Facebook page, I witnessed 93 neighbors verbally attack a member of our town when she encouraged people to join an event happening at the local pub.

Sure, it wasn't a brilliant idea.  Our governor is encouraging (not yet mandating) self quarantine. Eating dinner at a restaurant defeats that purpose.

But did it help the situation to call her a "f**king idiot" a "waste of a human" or question if she was "trying to murder us all"?

Of the 93 comments, at least 85 were just as harsh.

That woman is someone’s wife, mother and daughter.

You might be appalled.

You might be rolling your eyes agreeing that the woman is an idiot.

You might be reminded of other posts you’ve seen that got heated quickly (*ahem* pretty much all political convos or the...

Elevating your confidence through your style with Melanie Kluger - Ep #03

If you want to elevate your personal brand, get super clear on your personal style and bring it every day to your business. Whether it's for a keynote talk, a Facebook live, or a zoom chat with a prospect, when you feel confident in what you’re wearing you naturally show with more authority.

In today’s episode, I’m welcoming my first guest, Melanie Kluger, to talk to us about the link between style and confidence (which of course is essential to becoming a magnetic brand).

Melanie is a personal stylist, best selling author, closet connoisseur and creator of THE CONFIDENT CLOSET. She believes that you can use your clothes as a tool to be seen the way that you want to be seen. But it’s more than how others perceive you, it's about you showing up for yourself. If you truly know your style and you feel confident in what you're wearing, you show up in the world in a very different way. And especially if you’re an entrepreneur with a...

Practice for Success: The 4 Levels of Rehearsing for Live Presentations - Ep #04

What comes to mind when you hear the words role play, rehearsal and practice?

Do you get excited? I bet not. You probably roll your eyes, become a little dizzy, and come up with a list of other things that are FAR more important in your business.

The saying goes, practice makes perfect? Well, SCREW perfect. Nobody wants to hear or watch perfect. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t practice. If you want to show up with confidence and authority on your videos, webinars, live presentations and sales calls, practice is a necessity.

It’s how you show your audience that you value and respect their time. It's how you NOT show up like a robot. When you practice, you can become more intentional with capturing their attention at the right times so they’ll go running to sign up for your email list (and buy your programs).

But not all practice is created equal. In today’s episode I’m sharing my 4 Levels of Practice that you can...

How To Be More Authentic with Your Communication - Ep #01

The secret to being authentic, is knowing exactly who you are and who you’re not.

In this episode, I’m sharing 4 questions (plus a heck of a lot more) that will help you craft your brand persona so that you can make big strides in becoming a more magnetic communicator.

Maybe you have a live presentation coming up or you're wanting to get better on camera. Or maybe you want to be more compelling and increase your conversion rates in your sales conversations.

You can't make real progress in those areas until you’re clear on how you want others to perceive you-- here’s why. If you start trying to acquire those skills without having clarity on your brand persona, when you start learning from and modeling others, that modeling will quickly turn into mimicry. And soon enough you’ll be a tapestry of other people. It feels inauthentic. Show up as yourself (the ONE thing that makes your brand unique) by exploring some key questions to...

3 Mistakes Presenters Make on their Feet

blog Mar 27, 2019

It’s hard enough to remember the information you want to share with an audience, so when you add in remembering to take pauses, making eye contact, and being aware of your tone.. It is SO much!

The last thing you’re thinking about is how much you should move your feet. In the back of your mind you remember a comment from your college professor telling you not to stand there like a stump. But what rarely think about the other end of the spectrum…

Walking or moving too much during a presentation can become a distraction.

So which is it? Do we move, or do we not?

The answer is YES.

You should move. And you should stay still. A mixture of BOTH is needed to keep your audience engaged.

And in this week’s Spark Your Presentation Skills show, I walk you through 3 mistakes presenters make when it comes to this movement, and more importantly, how to fix them.

This intentional movement will help you appear even more confident with your audience, so you can focus on...
